Speciality coffee is remarkable product; sometimes known as Third Wave Coffee, it is about leaving the big commercial brands behind to experience some of the best quality coffee beans in the world. Beans grown by small farmers, often just a single family, in the far reaches of countries distributed throughout the so-called 'Coffee Belt', an area that lies between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, 23.5 degrees north and south of the equator. It is usual for this high grade coffee to be grown in higher altitudes than the big commercial crops found in supermarkets as those producers prefer lower altitude, flatter areas that can be rapidly machine harvested more easily. The higher altitudes are also, by definition, cooler climes, which are not so favoured by insect pests with insecticide use a rarity.

Speciality coffee, however, is picked by hand, cherry by cherry, which ensures only ripe red cherries are picked. the remainder carry on ripening until their turn comes to be picked.

Speciality coffees, those available from this website, are a head and shoulders above the usual big brands, and at a remarkable price.
