Here's a bit about why we're called BlindMan Coffee

If you are wondering why our little coffee company is called what it is, here it is.

In 2015 I was diagnosed with a degenerative eye disease and told that it was quite likely I would lose my sight completely in the coming years. 

It seems ridiculous now, but prior to that moment I had not known eye diseases even existed. As a kid I had had great eyesight and had no reason to think it would ever change. The consultant told me I could not even drive myself home from the hospital after he had ticked the box next to ‘Severely Sight Impaired/Blind’. As you might imagine, from that moment on, the wheels started to come off my life. It was a huge shock. 

Everything suddenly changed in a big and entirely unexpected way. 

After a year or so, when I finally started to surface from the gloomy place I had found myself, I needed to look (no pun intended!) to the future. My sight was becoming increasingly poor; zero peripheral vision, bumping into furniture, great difficulty finding things and more or less unable to go out in the dark. 

I decided I would put all my years of experience of freshly roasted , premium coffee to work and get that diagnosis to work for me in some way. So, I built a website (slowly — and with help) and began offering premium coffee to the UK. In a nutshell, that’s the story behind BlindMan Coffee.

And is it some sort of charity brand?

It isn't. Although I personally donate to Sightsavers UK each month. This is a UK charity that has been working to eliminate avoidable blindness for 75 years. They work to transform the lives of some of the world's most vulnerable people in more than 30 countries across Africa and Asia.

This is an excellent cause and if I can help prevent another person losing their sight, I am extremely pleased to do it.
